Three Messy Lessons of Tidying Revealed

By Help Person|March 15, 2019|Main Blog|

Part 3 of My Tidy Experiment This is the third part in a series of posts. Click here to read Part 1 and Part 2. Marie Kondo’s tidy little book on tidying packs a powerful punch and I’m taking the hit. It’s been several weeks, maybe even a month since I first started my tidy experiment. As I dig deeper into this whole process, I realize there are several reasons I’m doing it. I’m doing this to better my coaching. I’m a believer of not asking of others what you’re not willing to do yourself. When I coach my clients on environmental design, I want to know all aspects of the process so we can create a winnable game. I’m also ready for some big changes in my life and what better place to start than in my own home? I’ve set some big goals for myself and my life coaching practice in 2019. In order to achieve those dreams, I need to set myself up for success. As I look around my home, it doesn’t reflect Leanne the Life Coach as much as it reflects Leanne in Transition. Partly because I never unpacked when I moved into this home, and partly because I’m surrounded

Everyone’s discovering the secret of tidying up with Tidy Expert & Author, Marie Kondo. This is the second part in a series of posts. Click here to read Part 1. A few weeks ago I jumped on the tidy train. I began with my closet, and I’m happy to report it’s still intact. However, I will admit that I’m having some challenges with my sweaters. Like my old teenage self, they’re rebelling and won’t conform. Besides gaining insight into my clothes, I’m learning more about this whole tidy process. Tidying is more fun with the two of us. As I mentioned at the end of Part 1 in this blog series, The Boyfriend was impressed with my tidy closet and suggested we KonMari his closet, too. So we spent a romantic Friday evening doing just that. I’m pretty sure there’s a joke here about tidy whities, but in an effort to keep it brief, we’ll just go commando. The Boyfriend and I removed everything from his closet and believe it or not, he had almost as many clothes as me. His wardrobe consists of well over one hundred t-shirts, half of which were purchased for sentimental reasons and rarely, if ever, worn. Who am I

Is your life feeling messy? Part 1

By Help Person|February 13, 2019|Main Blog|

Everyone’s discovering the secret of tidying up with Tidy Expert & Author, Marie Kondo. So I jumped on the Tidy Train, too. This is the first post in a series. Click here to read My Tidy Experiment Part 2. As a life coach, I’m spending a lot of time observing and learning about both the conscious and subconscious effects of our environment. Thanks to my own unique situation, I’ve been personally obsessed with this particular notion for the past several months. Although our environment is made up of nine different parts, our physical surroundings are probably the first thing we think about when we hear the word “environment”. There are many ways to assess our surroundings, and since everyone including my clients have been talking about the latest craze of tidying up, I thought it’d be fun to experiment with it. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve no doubt heard about Marie Kondo and her “Japanese art of decluttering and organizing” (also called the KonMarie Method). Enthusiastically jumping on the bandwagon, I picked up a copy of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. It was an easy read and by the time I finished, it was as if I were

By Help Person|August 1, 2018|Thoughts from Mom-nonymous, Uncategorized|

Episode 078: We’re Moving In Together with Leanne Linsky and The Boyfriend I have all the answers to your conversation on moving in together — which is a BIG move. The Boyfriend and Leanne have their challenges ahead of them. He is used to living alone and no-one touches his belongings. He is a creature of habit and convenience for himself. The clean dishes stay in the dish drainer. It saves him time I get that. Also, his entry table is his stuff right where he wants it when he’s going out the door. What fun they have ahead of them! Leanne must be a neat freak like so many females. Ladies like to clean and also LOVE LOVE to decorate. Get ready for some surprises, Boyfriend. Sunday afternoons fill with browsing in stores looking for more pretty stuff. Yay! She will say the walking is just a great way to get exercise, especially on a rainy day. That’s (shopping and decorating) what we ladies all love. If that’s’ not for you.  You can always hide her car keys and purse, make some popcorn, and ask her to watch a must see football game with you. Will she be Ok with your idea? Maybe, maybe not. Making a commitment

So this is a big deal. 4:56 Leanne is moving into The Boyfriend’s place. The Boyfriend is wondering why she does the thing she does. He’s finding he has to let go of some of his control, and at the same time, there are some things he doesn’t want changed or moved. Leanne is thinking she’s just moving her belongings in. The Boyfriend thinks her process is random and doesn’t make sense to him. Leanne is explaining that her process had to change
