Episode 047: 2017 Year in Review
Episode 047: 2017 Year in Review with special guest Mom-nonymous
This is it! The end of 2017! Leanne and The Boyfriend encourage you to rate, review, and subscribe. And while you’re at it, check out our online store.
Meet Mom-nonymous, our 77 year-old blogger, mom of 3 (2 of which are divorcees), and wife of 56 years! Each week she re-caps our episode and sometimes throws in her two cents – check out the rest of our blog for her posts.
They start out at the beginning of Life Lafter Divorce podcast with episode 001. Our guest was comedian Jim Barnes. This episode happens to be one of Mom-nonymous’s favorites. She admires how well he handled his divorce process by putting his family first. Mom-nonymous really feels Jim went out of his way to do the right thing no matter how hard it was. Jim accepted the divorce although he didn’t always understand it.
The Boyfriend has never been married, Mom-nonymous has been married 56 years (forever!), and Leanne was married twice so we’re getting a wide perspective here.
We’ve have many comics on the pod this year. Thanks to Glenn Heath who made us pizza rolls on Thanksgiving! Thank you to our comics: Ross Belsky, Tiffany King, Samantha Gurewitz, Dennis Holden, Lex Morales, Maddie O’Hara, Vic Cohen, Rolan Whitt, Carolyn Luckett, Ann Walker, Sal Coladonato, John Lenore, Abby Deely, Brian Baron, and Derrick Whaley.
Fellow podcasters Suzy Hardy and Jay Jacobs!
We’ve had many children of divorce, including Samantha Gurewitz, Abby Deely, Karen Beach, and BonnieKaren Francese. BonnieKaren and her mom Kim White were on the pod together. It turned out to be one of our most emotional episode this year. They both lost so much in the divorce.
We’ve even talked to a parents of divorcee Anne and Mom-nonymous. Olivia Neely actually listened to her parents and family and, as a result, she decided not to get married. Mom-nonymous had read about Olivia and the Philly Naked Bike Ride in the Las Vegas RJ. This episode turned out to be another one of Mom-nonymous’ favorites.
We’ve also had international guests! Anonyme, Dad Solo, Andrea and Tori Chiappelli, and John Lenore had been married to someone from another country. Mom-nonymous admires Anonyme for her ability to be herself. We learned a lot about how marriage is viewed and handled in other countries. It’s not about religion as much as it is a pact or an agreement of sorts. The legalities of it are much different depending on where you live.
And let’s not forget entrepreneurs that were created from divorce! Tiffany Beverlin created Dreams Recycled. Neferteri Plessy founded Single Moms Planet. Claire McCarthy founded Modern Split.
Add some books to your must read in 2018 list! Authors Robert James, Charly Emery, Tiffany Beverlin, Tara Eisenhard, and Donna Stellhorn all have some terrific books out.
If you need some help navigating divorce or your life after, reach out to these awesome guests and professionals:
Katy Clark from Cinque Matchmaking
What have we learned the most? Mom-nonymous really enjoyed hearing more about the mediator Tara Eisenhard and Kristen Sawyer. Mom-nonymous loved the episode with Saundra Fitzpatrick and her divorce journey — especially learning more about depression.
The Boyfriend learned about relationships, red flags/green flags, and how to navigate relationships. He feels like it’s really helped him and made his relationship with Leanne better.
Leanne learned how others deal with their pain, healing, and challenges – from using comedy to never talking about it. There were so many lessons to be learned, conversations to be had, and questions to be answered. Another surprise was how many divorces inspired entrepreneurship.
Thank you to each and every one of our guests for making 2017 awesome!
“Olivia was somebody I read about in the Las Vegas Newspaper…We just loved her story and she liberated herself in a different way than most, and I admire her for that.” ~ Mom-nonymous
“I really think you need to put some hard thought into your old age. When you get older, if your alone, you have nothing. And if you’re still attached to somebody, or married, or in a relationship, you’ve got to show each other care and love. Because if one is sick and you’re not there for each other, you’ve really lost the meaning of your marriage or your relationship.” ~ Mom-nonymous
“These stories and this information …have been incredibly important in shaping my idea of what relationships are. It’s made my relationship with you better.” ~The Boyfriend
“We’re going to interview a lot of comedians…some of them even said, ‘This is the first time I ever really talked about my divorce’” ~ Leanne Linsky
